Worlds 10 Best Beaches

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Whether your dream beach trip consists of spending a few pampered nights in a four-star resort or swimming among tropical fish some 80 feet (24 meters) underwater, the Maldives are the sort of islands where either—or both—can come true. Straddling the equator southwest of Sri Lanka, the 1,102 islands that make up the Maldives form 26 atolls. The soft air enveloping the archipelago blends into a beautiful palm-fringed haze

The Maldives

A perfect destination whether  your dream beach trip consists of spending a few pampered nights in a  four-star resort or swimming among tropical fish some 80 feet  underwater.

  Seychelles

One of the most photographed beaches in the world, the pale pink sands of Anse Source d’Argent unfurls across the island of La Digue, one of the 115 components of this archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The sands sparkle against a backdrop of towering granite boulders, worn by time and weather. The turquoise water is relatively shallow and protected from the ocean’s waves by a reef.

Bora Bora, Tahiti

This is one of the magical islands that make up French Polynesia in the South Pacific. Just 18 miles (29 kilometers) long, this lush little slip of land lies in a protected lagoon edged by white sandy shores, the best being at Matira Point. Bora Bora boasts the nickname the “Romantic Island,” a moniker easy to appreciate with its isolated beaches, intimate hotels, and quiet atmosphere.

The Hamptons, New York

One of the hip spots for the air-kissing, well-heeled set, the Hamptons boast some of the prettiest beaches on Long Island. The unspoiled shoreline begins around Southampton and runs east to the end of the island at Montauk. Windswept dunes and waving grasses border the Atlantic Ocean.

Lanikai Beach, Hawaii

Half a mile of sparkling sand, palm trees swaying over a white beach, lush tropical plants, and endless sunshine make Lanikai one of Hawaii’s most scenic beaches. The shore is protected by a nearby coral reef, which keeps the surf relatively calm. The water is always deep green and postcard-perfect.

Nantucket Island, Massachusetts

The most popular beaches on this island in the North Atlantic are Surfside and Children’s. The waters here are relatively calm, and there’s plenty of sand to use for sunbathing or castle-building. Madaket Beach is known for its rougher surf and not-to-be-missed sunsets. Quidnet Beach provides great views of Sankaty Head lighthouse.

Fraser Island, Australia

Perched on the sunny Queensland coast 161 miles (259 kilometers) northeast of Brisbane, Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island and home to a wonderful beach. This World Heritage Site is an ecologist’s dream, with 640 square miles (1,664 square kilometers) of unspoiled natural paradise. Rain forests with 1,000-year-old trees sprout from the sand. Lodgings here accommodate a wide range of tourists, from the backpacking ecology lover to pampered resort fans.

St. Bart’s, Caribbean

One of many islands in the Caribbean Sea, St. Bart’s stands out with its blend of French chic and island relaxation. With beautiful secluded beaches, fine French cuisine, and gracious hotels, this tropical playground is popular with the Jet Set. The 8-mile-long (13-kilometer-long) island is edged by 20 beaches and small coves for swimmers and sunbathers, with sparkling water and white sand.

Langkawi, Malaysia

The name “Langkawi” translates into “the land of one’s wishes,” a welcoming concept that somewhat belies the island’s historic origins as a reputed refuge for pirates. Langkawi has since become a modern hideaway for the traveler seeking an escape. If your vacation wishes extend from uncrowded white sands and clear waters to lush green forests, you will find yourself content here. Datai Bay, located on Pulau Langkawi, is a heavenly retreat on the Andaman Sea.

Kauna’oa Bay, Hawaii

Located on the Kohala Coast of the Aloha State’s Big Island, Kauna’oa Bay is the quintessential Hawaiian spot. The 0.25-mile-long (0.4-kilometer-long), crescent-shaped beach has plenty of white sand, palm trees, and calm, clear, blue water. In addition to swimming and sunbathing, beachgoers here can snorkel or ride boogie boards. (Be careful swimming, however, because there are no lifeguards on this public beach.) At night, nestle into the sands and peer out into the water to see if you can catch a glimpse of manta rays swimming.

Top 10 Sexiest Beaches

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

1. KOH PHI PHI ISLAND, THAILAND

If you’ve seen The Beach, then you’ll know what limestone cliffs, turquoise waters and pristine white sand can do for romance. While the beach itself here has become something of a tourist trap since the film, it is still the ideal backdrop for some Summer loving.

 2. COLOMBIER BEACH, ST. BARTH’S

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why Colombier Beach is a sexy beach; accessible only by boat or a 25-minute hike along rocky terrain, the cove is all about blue skies, shimmering green water and flamingo-hued sand. While private yachts moor up at the cove’s entrance, you’ll be left largely to your own devices. We recommend bringing a picnic and cracking open a bottle of bubbly.

 3. PINK BEACH, ANTIGUA, CARIBBEAN

While movies such as Into The Blue and After The Sunset will have you thinking that Paradise Island in the Bahamas is the best place to get romantic on the sand, it’s not (unless you’re an exhibitionist, of course). Antigua’s Pink Beach offers a little privacy away from the madding crowds. Stretching eight miles and bordered by crystal-clear waters on one side and a handful of beautiful boutique hotels on the other, this is one picture-postcard sandbar. What’s more, the beach is only ever used by a few of the nearby hotels’ guests.

 4. WILDCAT BEACH, CALIFORNIA, USA

Secluded Wildcat Beach is located a full 30 minutes from San Francisco and requires a five-minute walk, but it’s worth it. What’s more, you can build a bonfire (with the necessary license, of course) and admire huge tide-fall cascades down from the cliffs and onto the sand behind you.

5. MAJAHUITAS COVE, MEXICO

Accessible only by boat, swaying palms, pristine white sand and turquoise waters await you at Majahuitas Cove. Named after a yellow hibiscus-like flower, it’s brimming with enough plant and wildlife to create a stunning natural backdrop. Day-trippers tread the sands during the day, but we recommend checking in to the eight-room hotel beside the beach.

6. MONDELLO BEACH, PALMERO, ITALY

Lovers of seafood, tree-lined boulevards and luxury hotel resorts will love what Mondello Beach has to offer; in fact, lovers will love it full-stop. Classy Mondello Beach has all the makings of a passionate Italian love story with sun-drenched sand and the fresh waters of the Mediterranean, and is super clean.

 7. STORE BEACH, SYDNEY

While it may seem impossible within the locale of a big, bustling city, Store Beach is actually pretty isolated. Hidden by a rock formation, it can only be reached by boat. And because it’s part of Sydney Harbour National Park, it’s kept spotless too.

 8. SUNSET BEACH, OAHU, HAWAII

It doesn’t get much sexier than Hawaii’s beaches, what with grass-skirt-wearing ladies and muscled surfer boys. However, few venture farther than Waikiki, which is where the crowds sip cocktails and get up to little else. Slip away to the North Shore’s Sunset Beach, where you’re certain to find a secluded spot.

 9. WHITE BAY BEACH, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Stretching eight miles long and half-a-mile wide, there’s not much else to do on this gorgeous, picture-postcard island other than make out. It is a U-shaped piece of paradise.

 10. POLES BAY, KEA, GREECE

Forget about Greece’s more popular islands and head out to the island of Kea, a beautiful beach just a ferry ride away from Athens. Because it is not included on the main ferry routes and only a select few know about it, you’ll practically have the place to yourselves. Once there, make your way to Poles Bay – a three-hour walk – and indulge in the twin sand beaches, rocky landscape and ancient ruins. Unspoiled, isolated and evocative; what more could you want ?

World’s Most Unusual Beaches

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

From quirky to quaint, bizarre to beautiful, our writers stretch out on some of the world’s most unusual beaches.

Andrew Heasley: Sipadan Island, Malaysia. Touted as one of the top 10 diving spots in the world. Among the most spectacular sites is the “turtle graveyard”: a yawning cave entrance at about 25 metres that opens into a labyrinth of caves.

3 Worlds Most Unusual Beaches

Jane Reddy: Lizard Island. The island, 28 kilometres off the Far North Queensland coast, is a jumping-off point to some of the world’s best diving on the Outer Great Barrier Reef.

4 Worlds Most Unusual Beaches

Paola Totaro: Cenito, Naples. Cenito is a mere thumbnail of sand, an ethereal ribbon among the Posillipo cliffs, shaped by the tides and the vagaries of nature. Sometimes it is there, many times it is not

5 Worlds Most Unusual Beaches

Bruce Elder: Matala Beach, Crete. This is the beach evoked by Joni Mitchell, who stayed here when she fled to Europe after breaking up with Graham Nash. In Carey from her album, Blue, she sings of the Mermaid Cafe and the warm winds that blow in from Africa

6 Worlds Most Unusual Beaches

Richard Jinman: Brighton Beach, England. Brighton Beach isn’t what you would call a beauty spot. It has pebbles instead of sand and water the colour of a dead fish’s eyes. o matter. I adore the place and come here as often as I can.

7 Worlds Most Unusual Beaches

Hamish McDonald: Caspian Sea, Iran. It was October 2001 and for me the War on Terror had hit a lull. Holed up in Tehran awaiting clearance to get to the Afghan border, I hankered for a swim in the Caspian Sea.

8 Worlds Most Unusual Beaches

Daniel Fallon: Waimea Bay, O’ahu, Hawaii. Hawaii has always meant big-wave surfing. The concept of “Waimea Bay” was introduced to me as a nipper growing up next to the shore-breaking dumpers of Coogee Beach.

9 Worlds Most Unusual Beaches

Kendall Hill: Jose Ignacio, Uruguay. It would be nice to think I was one of the first to discover the laidback allure of Jose Ignacio but the truth is Martin Amis, Naomi Campbell and Mario Testino beat me to it. They were the pioneers of the jetset crowd who now flock to this intimate beauty spot.

stressed worker

Do you ever tell yourself I just need to book that exotic island vacation package I’ve always dreamed of? Which quickly turns into I just never find the time to getaway. It’s a common problem in today’s fast paced, hustle, fast food society. Too many times we simply don’t take enough time for ourselves, our family and friends.

We turn around look in the mirror and we are looking at a late thirties someone square in the face wondering, were did my life go? We remember in our teens and twenties we were much more adventurous and made more time to get away, but our thirties and beyond have been hijacked by our career, responsibilities, and playing catch up for some life mistakes. Our bright dreams of world travel get shelved with the news of junior on the way or a collapse in the American financial system.

vacation club

Some hot trends emerging are sexy, affordable, vacation clubs which begin to paint the canvas of a lifestyle design. These clubs are founded on the concept of bulk wholesaling power. This is a business model used by companies like Costco or Sam’s Club. This same strategy is targeted towards the travel business which is a multi-trillion dollar industry. The vacation club builds a loyal membership base and goes out into world and uses bulk buying leverage to secure amazing deals on all kinds of vacations. These range from relaxing island vacation packages to affordable all inclusive vacation packages or just a quick weekend getaway.

HawaiiWaikiki beach

They include all of the popular destinations like Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, and Australia. The more exclusive luxury clubs offer trips to exotic locations like Dubai, Fiji, Costa Rica, or Tahiti. These premier clubs also offer luxury packages to major sporting events like the Superbowl or the US Open golf tournament. Other packages feature high profile celebrity charity events where meeting and mingling with sports figures and celebrities is part of the experience. Being part of a club doesn’t guarantee a change in old habits but it at least gets us dreaming of the possibilities again.

I challenge you to start living the life of your dreams. Life is short and it is meant to be lived, so remember to love, be passionate, and go travel!

My Hawaii holiday! I really regret not using my camera more… everything was just too fun to film! For the record, it was actually ME that jumped off that huge rock, and the sun risingshot at the end… that’s the sun rising over the clouds at 10,0000 feet, on top of a  volcano.

LA to Las Vegas

losangeles2

It was my first trip overseas, A young Australian tourist headed for Los Angeles to meet up with my friends Peter & Mick the following week. My Qantas flight Stop over was Hawaii and a nice girl of Native American heritage named Jacinta sat next to me. Whilst in conversation Jacinta told me she was headed to Las Vegas to assist her family in the new Native American jewelry store at the Boulevard mall. We touched down in Los Angeles and I realized I had not planned any Hotel stay and had a week on my own.  As I walked with Jucinta to pick up her rental car she was kind to offer me a lift where I needed to go and I said why not Las Vegas ! Great ! she said as we headed on the road. I’ll never forget how the lights of Las Vegas shimmered high in the night sky ahead of us on the highway.  Jacinta smiled at me with a look that made me feel I was starting my US trip mighty fine !
