Free Things to Do With Kids in Any City

Tags: , , , , ,

It’s so much fun having kids. It’s a great excuse to do the things you used to do as a kid all over again. But, as you know, it’s expensive enough taking care of their basic needs, and there isn’t always much money left over for entertainment. So, I’ve compiled a list of the top 10 free things to do with kids in any city:

  1. Join a playgroup. Meetup.com, is one of many great sources you will find on the Internet to locate a free playgroup in your area. If there isn’t one listed near you, you can start one.
  2. Watch airplanes take off. This isn’t very popular with babies, of course, but it’s great for your older kids. For a heart-pounding experience, see if you can find a place to lie down right under the path where the planes take off.
  3. Volunteer at a nursing home. I made a bunch of chocolate chip cookies and took my kids to a local nursing home to hand them out. The elderly loved it and my kids learned a valuable lesson about giving and sharing. Note: Make sure that the home you take them to isn’t for patients with dementia. The occasional outbursts can frighten children.
  4. Visit a local farmers’ market. Technically you can wander around and not spend money here, but you know you probably will. To make it a break-even “free” event, don’t purchase produce at your weekly trip to the super market and buy your produce at the farmers’ market instead. And there’s always some kid-friendly activities at your local farmers’ market, such as face painting, or the possibility of listening to local musicians.
  5. Book a tour of a factory. Are there any large food or candy factories or newspaper printers near you? Most offer free tours, if you ask, and even give out free samples sometimes.
  6. Camp out. Kids love camping out in the backyard. Set up a tent and sleeping bags and they’ll come up with their own fun.
  7. Go for a hike. This activity is best with small babies or older kids. Preschool age kids may not be up for the challenge of hiking trails. But if your child is still a baby, purchase a baby backpack and you’re ready to go. Be sure to bring lots of water, sunscreen, and hats for you and baby.
  8. Check out DVDs from the library. These are usually free but due back in a short amount of time or you get a hefty fine. There are selections for adults and kids as well as audio books for your long road trips.
  9. Attend an outdoor concert. Check your local newspaper calendar of events each weekend to see who is playing and where. Sometimes you can spread out and set up a picnic on a blanket for your family.
  10. Go for a ride. On a bus, ferry, trolley, or train young kids usually ride for free. It’s something different and fun for kids on the go.

Even what we consider mundane errands can be fun for little kids. They see the world in a fresh new way we have forgotten. Slow down a little, be ready to answer their myriad questions, and try to see things as they see them. It might just become a magical day for you, too.

Ten Questions You Should Ask Your Travel Operator

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Here is a list of FAQ’s that should come to your mind and you should ask before doing a deal with them.travel_agent

1. How long has your company been in business?

The number of years equates with amount of experience. Obviously an older company is reliable and has extensive information about the adventure places. They are also in a better position to provide you with facilities and guide you throughout your trip. One more reason why this question should be raised is that now a days the web has facilitated the new companies in looking very impressive. You should not get wooed by looks alone.

2. What sort of adventure activities do they provide? Is it for the entire time or just the adventure part of the trip?

This question should help you decide how much they understand what they are trying to sell. If you are speaking to them about biking expeditions and they offer you sight seeing on bikes it is clear that too believe in the philosophy of having the maximum fun. And even if they don’t offer you that, you have a choice to decide.

3. How early should I make a reservation?

This question should be asked aiming to find out the popularity of the tour. Sometimes they would ask you to do it straightaway because the tickets sell out fast. Or they can ask you to take your time, decide and then register with them. In any case their interest in getting you onboard comes forth.

4. How long have you been running the specific tour I am interested in?

If the company has been offering you the chosen tour for long they will have loads of information to share about it. If the tour is new then there might be a few things to be worked out. But that depends on the reputation of the company. Whatever be the reason you should at least ask.

5. What is your most popular adventure tour package and why?

This question lets you know their areas of specialization. You should get detailed information if the company has any special tours.

6. Do they provide guided tours or self-guided tours? Can they make the adventure holiday suiting your needs?

This will show case the range of tours they provide. And the tailor-made part will highlight their contact at those places which again comes to how much experiences they have had organizing the said tour.

7. What do your previous customers say about the degree of difficulty on this tour?

Travel companies generally rate their tour packages based on their customers experience and their own too. This should help you decide what tour to choose that suits your temperament.

8. Can they let you speak to people who have been their customers before?

You might get mixed answers here. Some might give you contacts straight away and some might refuse saying it’s against their policy. You should take a chance with this question.

9. What age group does the tour package generally have?

Now you don’t want to be the only 25 year old in a group of older people. If you have a better idea of the group composition you’d know which tour to choose.

10. What happens if I need to cancel my trip?

Every company has their own terms and conditions of cancellations. And it is better to know them in advance then to be met by some unexpected shocks.

Bondi Beach in London to promote Australia

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Bondi Beach on Thames
* Australia more than “soaps, sports, sun”
* Austrade promotes nation in Britain
* 80 tonnes of sand to recreate Bondi

IT’S a campaign meant to show there’s more to Australia than just “soaps, sport and sun” – but just what, it seems, the organizers weren’t too sure.

So bleary-eyed Londoners woke to a re-creation of Bondi Beach on the  banks of the Thames yesterday, complete with lifesavers and sunbathers.

Whether anyone would dare to take the plunge, however, wasn’t clear, The Daily Telegraph reports.

State governments and the Federal Government’s Austrade yesterday began their expensive campaign to convince Britain to invest more in Australia and rediscover its industries, technology and tourism.

Bondi on Thames

So 80 tonnes of sand was trucked in from Kent, in England’s southeast, to bring “a little bit of Down Under” to the British Isles.

To top off the cliche, cast members from the musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert were dropped in as props as well as token lifeguards, deck chairs and surfboards.

No one wants to say how much taxpayers have had to spend on the one-week celebration of all things Australian, which also includes food and wine tasting and a summit of leading Australian and British CEOs.

But G’day UK chairman Phil Aiken said the benefits would be significant.

My Hawaii holiday! I really regret not using my camera more… everything was just too fun to film! For the record, it was actually ME that jumped off that huge rock, and the sun risingshot at the end… that’s the sun rising over the clouds at 10,0000 feet, on top of a  volcano.

6 Tips to Traveling by Car, Truck Or SUV With Children

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

traveling-with-children

Traveling with small children can be a pleasurable experience for adults and children, if prepared. If the traveling event has not been planned in advance it can cause unneeded stress for adults and children, thereby instantly reducing some of the enjoyment that takes place during a family road trip. One idea to alleviate any departing stress would be departing just prior to a child’s normal sleep time. Leaving around the time of a child’s normal sleep schedule usually allows for a few hours of settling in and getting the first leg of the journey completed with little to no distraction. With that being said, parents planning to drive through the late evening hours may want to alter their own routine enough in advance to schedule in a nap. This will assure that the family is traveling with a well rested and alert driver at the wheel.

Other than departing around a child’s sleep schedule, there are a few items that children can bring with on a trip that will help ease the discomfort and restlessness a small child may experience during a long road trip. When possible, have the child pack their own backpack with things they are accustomed to playing with and depending on the age, your assistance may be required. This will involve the child in the planning and assist them in understanding why some of the changes are happening to their normal routine.

Following is a few ideas of items that can be easily packed and bring hours of satisfaction to a family trip.

• Age appropriate reading material such as picture books for small children and reading books for older children.

• Music playing electronic devices such as MP3 or CD player. Remember to bring along an extra set of batteries.

• Age appropriate activity books such as coloring books or puzzle books along with Color Wonder items. Color Wonder products do not show color unless used on specific paper or specific surfaces.

• Child specific backpack with personal items of their choice. Plastic drinking cups with built in straws that can have juice or water frozen in them prior to trip will reduce spilling and the need for ice.

• Electronic games

• Snack package containing fruit snacks or cereals such as Kix or Cheerios. Carrots and celery are another good option. There are many snack options available that will not leave sticky residue on fingers, face or automobile seats. Snacks can be packed to fit into a child’s personal backpack.

Keeping in mind the amount of time that will be required to travel to ones destination will help in determining just how many items the child should bring along. Age appropriate items that fit the child’s attention span will be key when implementing some of the previous tips.

Tips for Approaching Women

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

dating

Most guys get caught up in guessing what to say; here’s what they really should do

What do you do when you see a woman you are attracted to? Do you run and hide?

Do you use some canned line that you read on the Internet?

Do you stand there in fear trying to think of the right thing to say? What is the right thing to do?

When approaching a woman, most guys make the mistake of thinking too much about what to say. They believe there’s one magic line that will work in all situations. They rehearse this magic line, and when they deliver it, they hope the woman will become instantly attracted to them.
Unfortunately, rarely does this approach work — because most of what you say is irrelevant. To catch a woman’s attention, it is all about the confidence you display when approaching her.
Here are 10 surefire ways to intrigue her every time:

1. Observe something.

Make a comment about something you observe in the environment. This is especially effective at the grocery store. For example, if she is ordering a turkey sandwich, ask her if the turkey is good here. Make your comment immediate to the situation and it will seem perfectly natural. No matter where you are, there is always something interesting to comment on.

2. Smile.

This shows her that you are friendly and confident. A genuine smile not only feels good to you, but will put her at ease while creating openness in the interaction — a requirement for building rapport.

3. Do not hesitate.

If you hesitate in your approach, this tells her that you are not feeling confident — an immediate turn-off. When you see her, walk over to her within a short period of time (the three-second rule). Show her you are a man who knows what he wants and goes after it.

4. Positive body language.

If you approach hunched over with your head down, you are sending negative information about yourself, which makes you dead in the water before you begin. Stand up straight, with shoulders back and chest out, and use a firm yet relaxed walk.

5. Not too fast.

If you walk over too fast, you could likely trigger her internal alarm. A calm, casual approach is usually the best way to make her feel at ease with you.

6. Keep eye contact.

Never be the first to break eye contact when you approach. If you do, this sends the message that you are not feeling good about approaching. When you use strong eye contact, she will feel more drawn to you. With practice, you can master this.

7. Listen up.

Make sure you pay careful attention to what she says. Do not have your response pre-thought out. Women love a man who pays attention to the details of what she says. If you start throwing out random words, she will lose interest fast.

8. Do not fidget.

Fidgeting after you approach is distracting and shows you are uncomfortable. If you communicate that you are uncomfortable, she will feel uncomfortable, too, and will close up. Practice being aware of your movements. Pay attention to those movements, or lack of movements, that communicate comfort and confidence.

9. Lighten your tone of voice.

The tone of your voice is a very powerful tool. Approaching her in a light and playful tone is one of the best ways to start. You could also begin in a serious tone, accusing her of something like ”
I hope you saved some turkey for me
I hope you saved some turkey for me,” followed by a quick smile to let her know you are joking. Practice playing with your vocal tone with your friends — notice the different reactions you get when you say the exact same thing using varied tones and fluctuations.

10. Lean away from her.

A man who leans in too far when he talks often makes a woman feel crowded. A better approach is to lean away from her slightly. This lets her know that you respect her space, boundaries, and are comfortable with yourself.

The key to making these tips work for you is putting them into practice! Practice these tips and see the reaction you get. When you put them all together, you will be surprised at their power
