America’s coolest ghost towns

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Ghost towns cover the United States, and they make for a fun detour. Old mines, abandoned buildings, and the occasional curse:

Goldfield, Arizona

This gold rush town thrived in the 1890s, then died and was reborn a number of times. In the 1960s, it was reconstructed as a tourist stop with traps like reenacted gunfights in the streets.  It was reconstructed as a tourist stop. Goldfield offers perhaps more kitschy fun than historical preservation: you can visit the Superstition Museum, ride a narrow gauge railroad, or see folks in period costumes stir up a reenacted gunfight in the street.

Closest Civilization: Apache Junction, AZ.

(James Van Housen)

Calico, California

When the price of silver dropped in the 1890s, it was the beginning of the end for this silver-mining town in Southern California. It was a ghost town by 1907.  Today, Calico is a San Bernardino County Park, but you can still see one-third of Calico’s original buildings, as well as Knott’s kitschier additions such as the gold-panning attraction and a “mystery shack.” To get a glimpse of the old days you can tour one mine, or wander the old post office and schoolhouse.

Closest Civilization: Barstow, CA.

Santa Claus, Arizona

Launched in the 1930s to draw tourists and sell real estate, Santa Claus featured inns and restaurants with a Christmas theme, and tourists could meet the man in red pants year-round.  The four-acre site has been for sale since 1983. But even if you’re not on the market for your own town, it makes a good detour on the way to Kingman or the Hoover Dam. You can see some vandalized buildings, an old wishing well, and the remnants of “Old 1225”—a derailed, pink children’s train.

Closest Civilization: Kingman, AZ.

(Allen Sandquist)

 Thurmond, West Virginia

This coal town was booming in the late 1800s, but by the year 2000 was down to seven residents. Once a big stop on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, its depot has been turned into a museum. Once a big stop on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, its depot has been turned into a museum, and the town is now part of the New River Gorge National River. In 2005, 6 of its 7 residents reportedly ran for public office. You can check out the restored train depot and museum, but most folks come here for river rafting.

Closest Civilization: New River Gorge National River.

(D. W. Davidson)

Bodie, California

This former gold rush town had nearly 10,000 residents in the late 1870s. Its slow decline lasted well into the 20th Century, with the post office finally closing in 1942. Bodie still has some stocked stores, and visitors remark on seeing products their parents or grandparents used to have. “People yearn for simpler times,” says Langner. “And sometimes they’re just blown away that they’re somewhere that doesn’t get cell service.”

Closest Civilization: Lake Tahoe, about 75 miles away.

Top 10 Waterfalls in the World

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Now putting up a collection of the top 10 waterfalls is by no means an easy task, as the take on as which waterfall is the best completely depends on each individual’s personal experience. Just by looking at photos or reading about it in print, one cannot decide whether a waterfall deserves a place in the top 10 or not. However, based on a general opinion among thousands of people who have actually visited the waterfalls, here is a list of the top 10 waterfalls of the world, in reverse order:

10. Sutherland Falls, Fiordland, New Zealand.

Located in the wild and exotic Fiordland National Park, which is also a World Heritage Area, Sutherland Falls is a beautiful 580 metre-high waterfall that is sure to take your breath away. It is one of the many natural attractions of the Milford Track in New Zealand as well.

9. Dettifoss, Jökulsárgljúfur, Iceland.

It is undoubtedly the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe, the reason being it sends glacial melt waters at a flow of around 500 cubic meters per second, over its 44-metre precipice. It is situated at the top of the magnificent Jökulsárgljúfur, which, simply put, is the Grand Canyon in its Icelandic form. Dettifos has got three more waterfalls along the same river, but this is the most magnificent one, and makes it to the 9th place.

8. Gullfoss, Haukadalur, Iceland.

The second waterfall from Iceland to make it to the top 10, this amazing beauty is also one of the most unique waterfalls in the world, owing to the fact that it tumbles on the Hvítá River in two tiers at 90 degree angles to each other. Gullfoss forms a part of Iceland’s Golden Circle, a string of attractions that form a circle in the south west part of the country. Also, you can see rainbows over the waterfalls when the weather and timing are right!!

7. Kaieteur Falls, Potaro River, Guyana

Located in the pristine Guyana Shield, this 741-foot tall and 370-foot wide monster is supposedly one of the tallest single drop waterfalls in the world. The amazing surroundings of the waterfall that comprise beautiful, untouched wild forests make for a spectacular setting.

6. Yosemite Falls, California, USA

Another huge waterfall, the Yosemite Falls form part of the Yosemite Valley and can be seen from many trails and viewpoints. Accessible very easily, this waterfall does not flow all year though.

5. Angel Falls, Canaima, Venezuela

Nestled deep in the amazing Venezuelan rainforest, the Angel Falls plummets without interruption for 807 meters, and easily qualifies for being one of the tallest waterfalls in the world. Mystery shrouds its origin as nothing but forests surround the part where it begins.

4. Plitvice Waterfalls, Northern Dalmatia, Croatia

While the rest of the falls featured here in the top 10 are single waterfalls, the Plitvice Waterfalls are different in the way that they are a multitude of uncountable waterfalls. The scenery looks like these waterfalls have a world of their own!

3. Niagara Falls, Canada/New York, USA

Undoubtedly one of the most famous falls in the world, from appearances in countless movies and on TV and on postcards, the Niagara Falls are indeed spectacular. Located right on the border, the falls generate an average of about 750,000 gallons of water per second, thus making it the biggest waterfall in the world in terms of volume!

2. Victoria Falls, Livingstone, Zimbabwe

A tough contender for the number one spot, Victoria is the largest singular waterfall in the world, spanning across 1.7 km. Considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world, these falls generate an average of 1 million liters of water per second!! Adding to the grace is the declaration by UNESCO as the falls being a World Heritage Site.

1. Iguazu Falls, Puerto Iguazú, Brazil

The Iguazu Falls are an incredible sight, and one just has to see it live to really admire what it is to the fullest. Spanning a large 2 km, these falls have an average flow of 1.3 million liters of water per second! Consisting of around 275 individual and smaller falls and cascades, these falls are the best that there could be.

Great Festivals of the World

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Festivals. A place where people looking to have a great time can dance, listen to great music, celebrate, party, have fun, and relax. They happen all over the world for many different reasons. Some celebrate religion, some the new year, some art, some the harvest- whatever the reason, every month, somewhere in the world, you’ll find people descending on a location to celebrate and share a common experience. If you don’t like crowds, they probably aren’t for you. But if you feel like getting wet, dirty, staying up late, dancing, or just want to enjoy the energy of tens of thousands of people, check out some of these festivals:

Carnival (February)

Carnival is a giant party held right before the christian holiday of lent. Brazilian Carnival is the most famous and attracts the most numbers of people to it, with their dancing, parades, and floats, music, and drinking. Vegas may be sin city but this the sin holiday. Alternatively, if you can’t get down to Brazil, you can always head to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Holi (March)
getting colored at holi
Holi is a Hindu holiday celebrated on the day after the full moon in early March and glorifies good harvest and fertility of the land. Moreover, Holi is also celebrates the triumph of good over evil, at least according to a legend involving the god Krishna. It can last up to 16 days, depending on where in the world you celebrate it. There is music, food, and, of course, throw paint on each other.

Songkran (Mid-April)
Songkran, Thai New Year
Thai new year is one of the most fun event’s I’ve even been to. This three day water fight that engulfs the whole country, you can’t walk two seconds out of your house without getting wet. No one is safe. The most fun I ever had was riding in a Tuk Tuk and having a mobile water fight with the people in the lane over.

Bay to Breakers (May)
bay to breakers in san francisco
The Bay to Breakers is an annual footrace which takes place in San Francisco, California on the third Sunday of May. The complete course is 7.46 miles long. The footrace is more of an excuse to drink and dress in weird costumes along the way. It’s a very large event and is more like a moving party than a footrace. Also expect to see a lot of people running in the nude.

Glastonbury (June)
glastonbury festival in england
Every summer in June, Pilton, England becomes the stage for one of the largest music festivals in the world. Glastonbury is best known for its contemporary music, but also features dance, comedy, theater, circus, cabaret and many other arts. About 175,000 people come to this area for a few days of music, mud, and mayhem. The fields turn into giant tent cities as everyone camps out looking to have some fun!

Swedish Midsummer (June)
celebrating the midsummer
During the summer solstice, Swedes come out and celebrate the start of the summer. It doesn’t get warm often this far north so when it does, people like to celebrate it. Local Swedes head out into nature, dance around a pole, eat lots of fish, drinks lots of beer, and stay up to enjoy the longest day of the year. After all, the sun doesn’t set until about midnight.

Running of the Bulls (July)
the running of the bulls
During July, Pamplona is filled with white clothed and red scarf wearing people who quench their thirst with sangria and the daring few try to out run some angry bulls. It’s usually a recipe for one or two people getting hurt and not something I’d ever consider doing but the atmosphere and celebrations are not to be missed. By the end of the day, your white shirt will soon be sangria red.

La Tomatina (August)
spain's la tomatina
For one hour, 20,000 people engage in a tomato fight in Bunol, Spain during the last Wednesday of august. The whistle blows and the tomatoes fly. It’s fun, it’s dirty, it’s the food fight we all dreamed about as a child. After you have your fill of tomatoes, you go wash off in the river and then join the dance party in town where the sangria and food flow.

Burning Man (August)
burning man
At the end of August, tens of thousands of people head out in the Nevada desert for 6 days of alternative living. Burning Man brings out the arty, the alternative, and the eccentric. It’s 6 days of camping (bring lots of water!), art, and music. At the end, a giant wooden man being set on fire (hence the name).

Oktoberfest (September)
getting drunk at oktoberfest
Though really in September this two week beer festival in Munich attracts people form all over the world with its beer halls, lederhosen, giant steins of beer, and huge pretzels. No one I know ever lasted the whole two weeks but 3 or 4 days you are there will be the haziest of your life. It’s the best place in the world to celebrate one of God’s greatest gifts- beer.

Day of the Dead (November)
day of the dead
With paper mache skeletons and candy skulls, Mexico’s carnavelesque day of the dead is one of the world’s most familiar festivals. Participants devote a day to cleaning their family graves, decorating them with candles and flowers, having picnics and dancing to mariachi bands. It’s an odd combination of remembrance and festivity.

All around the world and no matter what month of the year, you’ll find people celebrating. I’ve been to a large number of these festivals and my goal is to see them all. Not only are festivals fun they are also a great way to do something different than the normal sightseeing we do when we visit places. The next time you are looking for something wild, crazy, and festive, plan your trip around these celebrations of life.

Top 10 Sexiest Beaches

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

1. KOH PHI PHI ISLAND, THAILAND

If you’ve seen The Beach, then you’ll know what limestone cliffs, turquoise waters and pristine white sand can do for romance. While the beach itself here has become something of a tourist trap since the film, it is still the ideal backdrop for some Summer loving.

 2. COLOMBIER BEACH, ST. BARTH’S

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why Colombier Beach is a sexy beach; accessible only by boat or a 25-minute hike along rocky terrain, the cove is all about blue skies, shimmering green water and flamingo-hued sand. While private yachts moor up at the cove’s entrance, you’ll be left largely to your own devices. We recommend bringing a picnic and cracking open a bottle of bubbly.

 3. PINK BEACH, ANTIGUA, CARIBBEAN

While movies such as Into The Blue and After The Sunset will have you thinking that Paradise Island in the Bahamas is the best place to get romantic on the sand, it’s not (unless you’re an exhibitionist, of course). Antigua’s Pink Beach offers a little privacy away from the madding crowds. Stretching eight miles and bordered by crystal-clear waters on one side and a handful of beautiful boutique hotels on the other, this is one picture-postcard sandbar. What’s more, the beach is only ever used by a few of the nearby hotels’ guests.

 4. WILDCAT BEACH, CALIFORNIA, USA

Secluded Wildcat Beach is located a full 30 minutes from San Francisco and requires a five-minute walk, but it’s worth it. What’s more, you can build a bonfire (with the necessary license, of course) and admire huge tide-fall cascades down from the cliffs and onto the sand behind you.

5. MAJAHUITAS COVE, MEXICO

Accessible only by boat, swaying palms, pristine white sand and turquoise waters await you at Majahuitas Cove. Named after a yellow hibiscus-like flower, it’s brimming with enough plant and wildlife to create a stunning natural backdrop. Day-trippers tread the sands during the day, but we recommend checking in to the eight-room hotel beside the beach.

6. MONDELLO BEACH, PALMERO, ITALY

Lovers of seafood, tree-lined boulevards and luxury hotel resorts will love what Mondello Beach has to offer; in fact, lovers will love it full-stop. Classy Mondello Beach has all the makings of a passionate Italian love story with sun-drenched sand and the fresh waters of the Mediterranean, and is super clean.

 7. STORE BEACH, SYDNEY

While it may seem impossible within the locale of a big, bustling city, Store Beach is actually pretty isolated. Hidden by a rock formation, it can only be reached by boat. And because it’s part of Sydney Harbour National Park, it’s kept spotless too.

 8. SUNSET BEACH, OAHU, HAWAII

It doesn’t get much sexier than Hawaii’s beaches, what with grass-skirt-wearing ladies and muscled surfer boys. However, few venture farther than Waikiki, which is where the crowds sip cocktails and get up to little else. Slip away to the North Shore’s Sunset Beach, where you’re certain to find a secluded spot.

 9. WHITE BAY BEACH, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Stretching eight miles long and half-a-mile wide, there’s not much else to do on this gorgeous, picture-postcard island other than make out. It is a U-shaped piece of paradise.

 10. POLES BAY, KEA, GREECE

Forget about Greece’s more popular islands and head out to the island of Kea, a beautiful beach just a ferry ride away from Athens. Because it is not included on the main ferry routes and only a select few know about it, you’ll practically have the place to yourselves. Once there, make your way to Poles Bay – a three-hour walk – and indulge in the twin sand beaches, rocky landscape and ancient ruins. Unspoiled, isolated and evocative; what more could you want ?

What do you actually do overseas?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

My Thai friend Seerung was telling me recently about her compatriots’ attitude towards food. “I think we are obsessed,” she admitted. “If we’re not eating food, we’re talking about food. We’re asking our friends what they have been eating. We plan lunch while we’re eating breakfast. We plan dinner while we’re eating lunch. It’s crazy.”

I know how she feels. I too spend an inordinate amount of time either eating food or talking about eating food. Particularly when I’m travelling.

I only realised this the other day, when I decided to tally up how I spend my time while I’m travelling.

Taking a trip is easy – you jump on the plane, mess around for a few weeks, and before you know it you’re back at work and it’s like the whole thing never happened. But it’s interesting to think about what you actually do during those couple of weeks away.

Going by the information most guide books give you, you’d think you’d spend about 10 per cent of your time on trains and planes, 20 per cent sleeping, 20 per cent eating, and 50 per cent wandering through churches, temples and museums.

But I reckon the reality is a bit different, so – using an average two-week block of travel – I decided to figure out exactly what I do on these overseas jaunts. Here goes …

Sleeping – 29 per cent
Holidays seem to be about the one time in my life when I don’t want to sleep a lot. The way I see it, it’s time wasted. It’s like when I was a kid playing Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiago – it’s frustrating when you have to sleep instead of getting out there and enjoying life (or catching loose-lipped, globe-trotting supervillains). So it’s a bit disappointing to realise that’s what I do the most of.

Eating and/or drinking – 25 per cent
That’s right, like Seerung and her Thai friends, I reckon I spend a solid quarter of my holidays either eating food, or planning where next to eat food, or talking about where we last ate food, or sitting in bars drinking. And probably talking about food. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Travelling – 22 per cent
This includes everything – planes, trains, buses, tuk-tuks, taxis, ferries, rickshaws, camels and elephants. It also includes waiting around in airports, train stations etc. It’s amazing to think that you shell out so much cash to visit these incredible places, but what you spend the bulk of your holiday doing is the actual act of travelling.

Wandering aimlessly – 8 per cent
I seem to dedicate at least an hour or so a day to just tramping around on foot with no particular destination in mind. Sometimes I come across amazing things I never thought I’d see. Other times, I just get lost. Which leads me to …

Finding my way home again – 3 per cent
Being a bloke, I’m morally obligated to attempt to do this by myself, without asking for anyone’s help. So I need to devote a bit more time to it than others might have to. (Hint: always carry a card with your hostel’s address on it.)

Looking at churches/temples/museums/art galleries – 4 per cent
Only 4 per cent? Am I some uncultured heathen? Maybe. But I maintain that there’s only so much you can learn about a country from inside four walls. Get in, look at the famous painting/archway/sculpture/pottery, and get out. Maybe grab something to eat?

Sitting in internet cafes – 2.5 per cent
Sorry people, but these comments don’t moderate themselves …

Shopping – 2 per cent
I don’t like shopping at home, so it stands to reason that I wouldn’t want to do it while I’m overseas. And I reckon a pretty solid chunk of this 2 per cent could be put down to “being dragged around shops by certain other people”.

Going to sporting events – 1.5 per cent
I’d devote a lot more time to this if I could, but it’s not the easiest thing to organise while you’re travelling. Still, if there’s a football/ice hockey/cricket/sumo wrestling match on, I’ll be there.

Standing in line – 1.5 per cent
For banks, for money exchanges, for visas, for art galleries, for toilets, for food, for buses, for taxis, for food again … Granted, some countries’ approach to queuing is a bit more physical than others’, but you still spend a fair amount of time waiting in line when you travel.

Lying in the sun – 1 per cent
What can I say, I have a pasty white complexion – devote any more time than this to lying around under than big yellow orb and I’d spend the rest of my holiday shedding skin like a snake.

Swearing I’ll never drink again – 0.5 per cent
That’s about 15 minutes every morning. Not sure what happens after that.

Everyone’s different – what do you devote your time to while you’re on the road ?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

With so many cheap flights, Vacation packages, and  Airline tickets available for International Travel deals, The Single guy should consider the following Cities when making his next Vacation Decision.

———————————————————————————————————————

We have researched the opinions of world travelers as well as the internet community in bringing you the Top Ten Cities of the World With The Most Beautiful Women. Each city on this list contains a copious supply of beautiful women you may want to urge your parents or your wife to visit for the next family vacation, just for the scenery of course. All cities throughout the world were considered and determinative factors included: 1) Quality of women, 2) Amount of Women per men ratio and 3) Ease of talking to women. Please enjoy the list and we look forward to your comments.

Dutch Girls

Dutch Girls

10. Amsterdam, Holland

Of course Amsterdam must make the list. This city has women more beautiful riding past on bicycles than other cities have going by in chauffeured cars. Dutch girls are amazing in so many ways, they’re trendy, as well as cool, they’re fun, and they are exceptionally beautiful. They’re the kind of girls that you just want to date for a very long time. 9. Tel Av iv,  Israel Israel girls

Israel has some of the best looking women in the world. Perhaps it is something about those green eyes that are just particularly attractive. It should be noted that in Israel women over the age of 18 are required to have been in the military, this of course means that if you hook up with an Israeli girl’s best friend, she may very well kick your ass, while equipped with an Uzi. Sure it’s a longshot, but it could happen. Find Girls in Israel

8. Montreal, CanadaMontreal girls

The exquisite taste of France but with the convenient location of Canada, Montreal is truly one of the world’s best cities filled with beautiful women. So many universities and colleges and so many women with fashion sense and a desire to take care of their bodies. One of the best parts is that the women all speak French commonly known as the language of love. I highly recommend you take a trip to Montreal, and find a beautiful leather trench coat wearing beauty that will serenade you in French all night long. Find Girls in Montreal

7. Caracas, VenezuelaVenezuela.Women

Caracas is the capital of Venezuela. For the record, Venezuela is the country with more Miss Universe Pageant titles than any other nation, therefore you know it’s capital is going to be teeming full of beautiful women. The women of Caracas are so beautiful that they make Brazilian women look like trashier counterparts. I speak honestly when I tell you that these women are exceptionally easy to talk to you and know how to have a great time. I can also attest to the amount of fun you will have when you take a trip to Venezuela.

6. Moscow , RussiaRussian Women

Mother Russia is home to some of the world’s finest women, the Moscow subway alone has more beauties than most of the United States alone. It’s not only the regularity of tall, blonde hair, blue eyed women that make it so great, it’s also the amazing level of friendliness that you will find. It’s a definite unique experience when what seems like the world’s most beautiful woman is staring your way only to find that she is staring your way, and yes at you! Then she approaches you! Sure the first time, you will mess up, but don’t worry there will be many more on your trip! Find Girls in Moscow

5. Los Angeles, CaliforniaL.A. girls

How much can be said about L.A. girls, well I think you will find upon arrival that so much can be said you’ll find yourself at a lack of words. The women of L.A. are on a level unlike most any other kind you may have ever seen. All the beautiful people from across the United States flock to this mecca, this is where the cool people come to live, to work, & to try to “make it”. This is what the Beach Boys had in mind when they sang the song California Dreamin’. Find Girls in Los Angeles

 4. Varna, BulgariaBulgarian Girls

Many of you may not have heard of Bulgaria, most of you may not know where to find Bulgaria on a map, but you have all experienced Bulgaria in day dreams, night dreams or just drifting off at work. Bulgaria is a land of no drug laws, cheap vodka, mechanical bulls on the beach, waterslide and some of the most uninhibited natural beauties in the world. This land has cafes with inflatable furniture, thongs and g-strings everywhere you turn your head, see through pants on every corner and topless sunbathing on every beach. What’s more, these women retain a certain level of class and sophistication and take great care of their bodies. The most important part of Bulgaria is the charm and beauty that you will find in these stunning women. Plan your trip today!

Buenos Aires Girls

3. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires is a city unlike any other. It is truly one of the most extraordinary cities in the Western Hemisphere. The city has an enormous wealth of beautiful women on a scale unlike nearly any other city. The women of Buenos Aires are beautiful, natural women who are comfortable in their amazing bodies. Nearly every women in Buenos Aires is a model waiting to be found, by you of course! The parties are legendary and the clubs and events are overloaded with beautiful, approachable, and fun women.

DENMARK MERMAID BIRTHDAY

Copenhagen Girls

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen’s women are probably some of the most approachable you will ever meet. Also, these women are much more liberated sexually than most other cities throughout the world. They are all over, working in all places and always ready to head to the local bar for a drink or two. The environment runs at a much slower pace and the women enjoy a wide variety of situations. In Copenhagen, during your trip, you will find yourself catching the eye of several women. Just remain cool, calm and collective and this will be a phenomenal trip.

Sweden Girls

Sweden Girls

1. Stockholm, Sweden

It seems like every woman in Stockholm is amazingly beautiful. You walk into 7-11 and the girl behind the counter easily would be an American model or Playboy Playmate. However this isn’t just with 7-11, it’s everywhere. Also, these women know how to party and enjoy each other. Per capita the women of Stockholm were the most beautiful. These women were also extremely educated and friendly. All of the women spoke English with English accents  therefore there is no communication barrier. These women make you feel good in every way. Sweden is a must visit on a future vacation!

Natural Sights of California

death_valley

California is the third biggest state in the US and stretches over 163,000 square miles. Its sprawling surface area and coastal location makes for a diverse climate and ecological landscape, which means that whilst some areas are arid and desert-like, others are far cooler and temperate. With European tourists eager to escape the Eurozone this summer, and more and more airlines offering cheap flights to San Francisco, here is my guide to some of the standout natural sights of the region.

Death Valley

redwood-national-park

Redwood National and State ParksDeath Valley desert in California is one of the hottest places in the western hemisphere and is the location of the highest recorded temperature, 56.7 degrees Celsius, measured in 1922. Located in the south east of the state, Death Valley National Park is visited by over 700,000 visitors a year who come to see the inspiring landscapes and ancient geology (some rocks are said to be billions of years old). As a consequence of its harsh environment, the valley is home to a host of unique animals such as the coyote and pupfish.

Humboldt and Del North counties are located in the north east of  California, and are home to a great number of redwood forest and other areas of natural beauty – collectively known as the Redwood National and State Parks. The redwoods in the area descend directly from a species that grew 20 million years ago, though what remains today (almost 40,000 acres) is just 2 percent of what would have existed pre-civilization. Although there are no hotels or motels within the parks, nearby towns such as Orick and Crescent City offer sufficient lodging for visitors.

lake-country

Lake County
Lake County takes its name from Clear Lake, the largest natural lake (68 square miles) entirely in California. Aside from being a quiet and tranquil destination for nature lovers, the area is also famed for wine production, an industry that flourished until prohibition in 1920 but has been re-established since the 60s. The county is also home to a portion of Medocino National Forest – a prime destination for recreational activities.

yosemite-national-park

Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is located in the central east of California, and stretches over 1,100 square miles. Despite its great size, the area that is mostly visited by the 3.5 million people each year is Yosemite Valley – a portion of the park that stretches over about 7 miles. The valley is popular due to the number of trails and the diversity of natural and geological sights within the relatively small area. Rock formations and cliffs such as El Capitan and Sentinal Rock offer inspirational scenery whilst the area boasts a Mediterranean climate.
