Bangalore, also known as the pub capital of India has a vivacious and energetic nightlife that comprises of bars, nightclubs, live music, theatres and restaurants. The term nightlife refers to entertainment that is available from late evening into the night and is primarily enjoyed by young adults. Bangalore city has as many as 200 excellent clubs and pubs that are frequented by locals as well as tourists, mostly during the weekends.

Here there are several traditional dance performances and art exhibitions. The city also draws international artists that include pop and rock stars. Those interested in classical performances visit Chowdaiah Memorial Hall that hosts films, dance and drama. The Park Hotel is also a happening place for the cocktail lovers.

You can find plenty of nightclubs scattered throughout the beautiful city of Bangalore. These nightclubs generally remain crowded by locals and tourists. The dance floor of the most of the nightclubs is very spacious and is popular for amazing themes for different nights.

Another rocking place is the Liquor Café with young crowd. The Pescos, the Club Inferno and the TGIF are some of the rocking places for nightlife in Bangalore. More of the discos and pubs can found outside the city and they shut early in the morning. Most of them have couple entry.

Maybe it’s something in the water, but when Ute Junker heads overseas her clothes seem to fall away with her inhibitions.

We tell ourselves a lot of fibs about why we travel. We say we want to explore new countries. We want to see the sights, to meet the people, to eat the food. Really, though, the reason most of us like to travel is because when we’re abroad, we’re more adventurous, more experimental, more fun. We become the people we’d really like to be.

For most of us, daily life is about routine. We don’t just catch the same bus every morning: we walk the same route to the bus stop. Every day. We don’t just grab a coffee at 10am: we order a decaf double soy latte with one sugar. Every day. There’s not a lot of room for spontaneity or for experimentation.

Take us out of our comfort zone, however, and we break free from the rigid routines we’ve built up. The woman who orders a BLT for lunch every day (“no butter, bacon on the side”) will gamely grab something unidentifiable from a street vendor to see what it tastes like. The man who never exchanges a word with anyone on his daily train trip starts trying to have a conversation with the African woman sitting at the bus stop holding a goat.

Personally, I find it’s not just my inhibitions I shed when I’m abroad: it’s also my clothes. Somehow, my getting-friendly-with-the-locals routine often seems to involve some degree of nakedness.

I’m not what you’d call an exhibitionist. At home, I expose about as much flesh as the next person. In the gym changing room, I don’t struggle into my underwear while trying to keep a towel secured around myself, but nor do I parade around buck-naked (unlike some people).

When I was working in magazines, I was once accosted in the gym changing room at lunch by a woman wearing only a towel (around her head), who greeted me enthusiastically. It took me a moment to recognise her: she turned out to be an advertiser who, last time I’d seen her, was in a boardroom wearing a three-piece suit. Awkwardly, I blurted out, “Sorry, didn’t recognise you without your clothes on.”

Take me to a different country, however, and I’ll happily get naked with anyone. I could blame the Finns for it. (Much can be blamed on the Finns, particularly if you try to keep up with them when they’re drinking.) On my first trip to Helsinki, I made some great Finnish friends who introduced me to a range of local customs, including the mixed sauna as a social activity – something you do on a Friday night instead of going to the cinema, say.

At home, I might think twice before getting naked in front of 20 of my closest friends. When you’re away, however, it’s easier to go with the flow. And when a naked Finnish man sits down next to you and starts flirting with you, well, you just flirt right back.

It was also the Finns who, on another trip, took me to St Petersburg, where we decided to explore the Russian sauna experience. We went to a sauna in a rundown suburb of St Petersburg, where the only other people soaking up the steam were red-faced, broad-backed babushkas who looked as if they should be out working the potato field.

I was sitting in the sauna, squeezed between three of these bulky, sweating women, when suddenly I felt a great whack across my back. I looked around, startled, to see one of the grandmas grinning at me, a hefty selection of birch twigs firmly gripped in her meaty fist. Apparently this is part of the Russian spa experience. Now, I can’t imagine any circumstance at home in which I’d get into mild S&M with someone’s naked grandma: but hey, this was Russia. Smiling my acquiescence, I let her beat me – then offered to do the same for her. It seemed only polite.

In Korea, I also ended up in one of the country’s famous bathhouses with a new acquaintance, a petite local (five-foot-nothing to my six-foot). As we sat together, naked, side by side in a steaming bath, she proceeded to itemise the differences in our body shapes – a catalogue that went something like this:

“Look at feet – yours so big, mine so small,” pointing at our feet. “Look at legs – yours so long, mine so small,” stroking my thigh. “Look at your backside – yours so big, mine so small …”

It was about this time my jaw hit the floor – until she ran her hand up and down my back, and I realised she was talking about the back side of my body – that is, my back.

Some people might dismiss this serial nudity as the chameleon effect: it’s easy to lose your inhibitions when everyone else is doing it. But I’d argue it’s something more than that.

When you’re travelling, there’s no one to judge you, so you can play by your own rules. You relax enough to become the person you’d like to be, not the person circumstances have made you. You shed the baggage you usually lug around with you – and as any frequent traveller knows, travelling light makes any journey much more enjoyable.

Up and down Detroit’s streets, buildings stand abandoned and in ruin. French photographers Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre set out to document the decline of an American city. Their book “The Ruins of Detroit“, a document of decaying buildings frozen in time, was published in December 2010.

From the photographers’ website:

Ruins are the visible symbols and landmarks of our societies and their changes, small pieces of history in suspension.

The state of ruin is essentially a temporary situation that happens at some point, the volatile result of change of era and the fall of empires. This fragility, the time elapsed but even so running fast, lead us to watch them one very last time : being dismayed, or admire, making us wondering about the permanence of things.

Photography appeared to us as a modest way to keep a little bit of this ephemeral state.

How to find the best section of the Mediterranean coastline that extends for 46,000 kilometres (28,600 mi), winds through 21 countries and is bounded by three continents – Europe, Africa and Asia? From hundreds of amazing spots we selected ten jewels of the Mediterranean that are particularly rewarding, beautiful and special. Be it perfect surfing conditions, superb food, rich culture or Europe’s most famous mountain tracks, these destinations, besides being ideal beach getaways, have something for every type of traveler.

1. Tarifa in Spain

Tarifa. By digitalnoise

Tarifa, the Spanish city from where Africa can be clearly seen as it is only 13 km (8 mi) away, is one of the most fantastic places on the Mediterranean coast. Thanks to the constantly blowing winds (due to its location at the meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean ), the town has become a mecca for windsurfing and kitesurfing addicts. So if you are one of the surfing enthusiasts, do not miss Tarifa while planning your Mediterranean escapade. Of course, Tarifa is also an exceptionally rewarding town for non-surfing folks. It’s ultra easy-going, relaxed and arty with its beautiful old town, white sand beaches and green surroundings.

We have selected the Aeolian Islands as one of our favorite Mediterranean locations due to their exceptional beauty. Located not far from Sicily, the archipelago is composed of eight volcanic islands, whose jaw-dropping vistas have power to amaze the most skeptical traveler. Surrounded by crystal azure waters, the mountainous green islands are home to ancient old towns with narrow streets, Mediterranean-style houses and superb restaurants, offering the freshest of fresh sea food. What else does one need for perfect beach-oriented holidays?

According to Lonely Planet Malta is “a microcosm of the Mediterranean”, and we fully agree with that statement. In other words, you will not miss anything of the Mediterranean package by visiting only this one little country. Covering the area of 300 km², located centrally in the Sea, Malta is a mix of European, North African and Arabic influences, which makes it such a diverse, fascinating and unique place. Malta is a specially rewarding destination for history enthusiasts as it packs amazing architecture of Norman, Gothic, Renaissance or Baroque periods, amazing ancient buildings dating back as far as 6,000 years ago and wide selection of museums from archaeology to modern history.

4. Cassis in France

For those who love the French style of vacationing, Cassis is the place that will not disappoint the most fastidious Francophile. Situated near Marseille in southern France, the charming town of Cassis is famed for its spectacular cliffs, numerous inlets with hidden beaches and wine. Apparently, the town was the first of three French vineyards to profit from the appellation d’origine contrôlée (label of controlled origin) introduced in the 1930s. Today, renowned white wine from Cassis is a symbol of the region and iconic tipple of France.

5. Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Dubrovnik, in southern Croatia, is an absolutely unique place on the Mediterranean coast. For many it is a number one destination that beats its Mediterranean competitors with spectacular location, stunning old town filled with ancient architecture and fantastic coast. In the Middle Ages, Dubrovnik, an important port and trade center, was the only city that could rival Italian Venice. No wonder, today the city, being on a par with the most popular Mediterranean destinations, attracts a staggering 0.5 million tourists a year.

6. Hydra in Greece

Hydra. By country boy shane

The reason why we love Hydra (besides the obvious) is the fact that the cars and motorbikes are not allowed by law on the islands. How wonderful is that? With donkeys, bicycles, and water taxis providing public transportation, Hydra is truly a special place among the country’s islands, making you feel the traditional Greek spirit. Add to it the outstanding Hydra’s coast filled with little harbors, pretty buildings, crystal waters and an array of fine restaurants, and you might have enough reasons to make it your next Mediterranean destination.

7. Tossa de Mar in Spain

<img title="The Beach at Tossa de Mar. By neillalderney123" src="http://img.opentravel.com/blogs/travel-blog-magazine-2321_3.jpg" alt="The Beach at Tossa de Mar.

Tossa de Mar is a perfect getaway, especially for those who want to ease overloaded senses after visiting Barcelona. Located not very far (100 km) from the famed capital of Catalonia, on the Costa Brava, Tossa de Mar lures visitors with picturesque beaches, a charming and quiet old town and a beautiful medieval castle towering above the beaches. Over a glass of fine wine in one of the town’s little bars, the town seems to be even more attractive.

Tossa de Mar’s village. By monkeyleader

8. Corsica in France

If you think Corsica is just another Mediterranean island, you are obviously wrong. Besides its golden beaches and turquoise waters (as if it wasn’t enough), Corsica is home to the toughest long distance trail in Europe – the legendary GR 20 that can be walked in 15 days. In fact, mountains cover two-thirds of this French island, located not far from Sardinia. With over 20 summits of more than 2,000 meters (6,600 ft), Corsica is a paradise for hiking lovers. In addition, the island’s coastline that winds around 1,000 km is a fantastic destination for beach-goers.

9. Portofino in Italy

If we had to describe Portofino in one word, it would be “fairy tale”. Once a small Italian fishing village located on the Italian Riviera, today the town has become a famed resort, considered the most beautiful port on the Mediterranean coast. No wonder, Portofino has a few replicas in the world – it inspired a re-creation of the sea side town at Tokyo DisneySea, is copied in authentic detail at Universal Orlando Resort in USA as well as in the Gulf Harbour marina in New Zealand. With its charming architecture, magical location and multitude of café terraces, Portofino is a quintessence of Italian and Mediterranean lifestyle.

10. Tetouan in Morocco

The richness of the African part of the Mediterranean coast could make another post, but here we present one of the most remarkable destinations surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea – Moroccan Tetouan. In comparison to the European side of the sea, the coast in Morocco remains virgin unspoiled and undeveloped. Tetouan, meaning “the eyes” in the Berber language, is one of the two major Moroccan ports on the coast, being, at the same time, a beautiful resort with the old town listed on the World Heritage List, filled with charming traditional white buildings. Tetouan is truly a unique and slightly exotic side of the Mediterranean coast.

Aside from being incredibly well traveled (he just spent a few weeks in northern Iraq), if you have any questions about how to cheaply use an unlocked cell phone on the road, or work around internet blocks in countries like China, or any other technology question you can think of, his website is the one for you.

I have followed him and read his stuff since before he started traveling on his current long journey. He’s a hell of a lot better now than he’s ever been before. His photography is truly great and improving with every post. And no one seems to get into more unusual and entertaining, situations than him.
Well, I’ll give you a bonus one also. Unbravegirl, otherwise known as Sally. Sally has a special place in my heart for two reasons: she is one of the few travel bloggers that is actually somehow less tech savvy than I am and, like me, her posts tend towards the long-winded. Normally a bad way to write for the short attention span of the internet, but I challenge you to go read a few of her posts and somehow not be enchanted enough to make it all the way through. Funny, snarky, thoughtful — she’s a great read and some smart book agent should snap her up now, because her form is perfect for that format.

So there you go. If you go and give these folks a chance, I bet you are going to agree with me that some of the finest travel writing out there today is not in magazines or books, but is right there for free on the internet. Pass the good word to your friends — the more people reading good writing, the better for good writing. Enjoy.

It is a spectacular involving mass movement of wild animals roaming free through unspoiled and savage wilderness of Kenya and Tanzania. You have not seen something like this before Africa is changing at a quick pace and human encroachment into the wildlife reserves has continued to erase the traditional routes. In association with development and changes of the way of life, the image of wildlife roaming free is slowly getting erased. Fortunately, Masai Mara National reserve in Kenya and Serengeti national park in Kenya holds on to this charisma of an open, limitless land. It is one of the places in Africa that still prides in wildlife concentration.

Masai Mara is located in the South-western part of Kenya, 290 kilometers from Nairobi. The abundance of wildlife and the remoteness of the reserve implants memories that no money can buy.
The Migration is a recent phenomenon (60′s and 70′s was the biggest boom) with about 250,000
individuals. Gradually, with time the number has risen to the current population of over 3,000,000
individuals. Add to it an estimated 1,500,000 Zebras and the result is one of the most magnificent scenes in the world. The massive display attracts hundreds of big cats as the populations provide abundant prey. The giant African crocodiles lie in wait, patiently, as the big herds come to cross the river or to drink.

It is the Masai community who are not so pleased with the whole phenomenon. The wildebeests compete with their huge herds of boran cattle for the grasslands. To them, it is a big calamity especially because the wildebeests transmit diseases to their herds and poison the waters with their fetal sacs.
This world famous migration is a circle of life which, in simple terms, means that there isn’t a start or an end. Only where the herds are located at a particular time. The big determinant is the availability of pastures. The plains of Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Serengeti are a favored spot as grass abounds and the wildebeest find a safe place to graze. It is also here that over 500,000 new calves are born and many are taken by the nearby waiting Jackals or Hyenas.

New born migrating animals have little time to strengthen their legs. As soon after birth, the “pilgrim” continues. By April, the rains are over in southern Serengeti and the plains have dried up. The great herds then gather and face the long march northwards and westwards. The natural lawn mowers abandon the exhausted grasslands of southern Serengeti to head for the already tall grass of the Western corridor, near the shores of Lake Victoria.
The pioneers of the migration movement are the majestic herds of zebras. They prefer the long stems of the coarse grass. This way, they leave behind shorter grass which is favored by the wildebeests.
In late June to July the mass start pouring into the Kenya Masai Mara reserve where fresh, tender and mineral-rich grass is already waiting. Here they meet the resident Mara populations which add up to about 150,000. Also commonly referred to as the Loita plains herds, they spend most of the season northeast of the Mara. When it gets dry, they pour into the interior of the Mara in search of greener pastures.

The migrating herds spend roughly 3 to 31/2 months in the Mara crossing through Sand River, which is a tributary of the Mara along the boundary of Kenya and Tanzania. They trek westwards and cross the Mara river and sometimes the Talek river. Usually around this time heavy rains on the Mau Escarpment (origin of Mara River) fill the Mara river to the brim.

This is a good time to watch the trunk-looking Crocodiles, while they await the forthcoming feast.
Finally, the gnus (wildebeests) venture into the river. This gregarious coordinated behavior of the herds, usually teamed with zebras, antelopes, gazelles and other plains game create an unimaginable scene. The Wildebeests wander along the river looking for a convenient crossing point. This is a moment filled with tension for both the wildebeests and the audience. They survey for a less steep and with no obvious danger. Finally, one takes courage and plunges into the river and magically the rest falls onto the footsteps and in one organized line cross the river

In addition to the crocodiles, accidents also occur. The river’s current can be too strong for some especially the young ones. Or simply getting stuck between the rocks in the river and breaking limbs. Finally, the crossing is done and the trek to their unknown destiny continues.
In October, they head to Serengeti for southern grasslands, green carpet of rich grass. Once again, they are heading to the southern plains, where a new generation will be born to start the cycle of life all over again.

If you`re contemplating the sunrise at Wat Arun temple along the Chao Phraya River, you`ll marvel at what peace can be found in the midst of such a chaotic metropolis. Bangkok means City of Angels.

If you love food, you will love Bangkok. There are restaurants to suit every taste serving a huge selection of western and asian food. The variety of cuisine and dining experiences is one of the major attractions of Bangkok. You can eat breakfast at your hotel, lunch at a local noodle stall by the roadside, and have dinner with fine wines in a sophisticated air conditioned restaurant. Bangkok’s chinatown houses some of the best and most expensive Chinese restaurants in the city, along with many of the best and cheapest food stalls, especially at night. The restaurant mostly specialize in southern Chinese cooking, with noodles, seafood and at lunch time. Many guesthouses and open air cafes serving standard Thai and Chinese dishes.

Bangkok is home to several gallereies, both public and private. Private galleries in Bangkok range from small informal affairs to galleries with plush modern architecture. Many galleries of course focus on Thai traditional art and the main gallery for this genre is the National Gallery. Outside the galleries through, art hits the streets-wander down places like Khao San Road or the main student areas and you are bound to meet an artist seeling his/her paintings.

Bangkok Theatre:
Through the years, the theatre has grown to become a prominent home for the performing arts in Thailand. Under its roof, the company has created numerous acclaimed productions, founded a performing arts school, carried out international exchanges, experimented with arts in different media all the while preserving and developing traditional arts. All these efforts are different facets of the same commitment — to develop excellence in Thai performing arts and artists. Many artists trained in Patravadi Theatre have become prominent artists on their own.

Since then, Bangkok has turned into a national treasure house and functions as Thailand’s spiritual, cultural, political, commercial, educational and diplomatic center.Ingredients and wine are clearly imported from Europe. If you want something other than Thai food in Thailand, this place is a great choice. The ambiance was very nice as well and perfect to take a date.

At the same time, long-term travelers are always curious about the decisions other travelers made when faced with similar decisons, part of the continual game in living a nomadic life. Therefore, to continue the conversation and peek into my own decisions, here are the details behind what I packed on my current little jaunt. How to Pack: “Heavy packs kill light lives.” As a constant traveler, always packing or unpacking from one trip or another, I’ve been on the search for the perfect bag for a long time. But I’ve come to recognize that the perfect bag simply doesn’t exist. Instead, I’ve come to enjoy different packs for different adventures: a Gregory Shasta and Mountainsmith Ghost for backpacking trips into the wilderness (although both bags have been on long-term trips abroad in the past), a Mountainsmith Tour as a camera bag, and my Patagonia Critical Mass as a do-everything briefcase / gym / weekend bag. But for trips I’ve come to depend on my Patagonia MLC; it’s a pack that doesn’t look like a pack, has a comfortable shoulder strap, works surprisingly effectively as a backpack while traveling, has a low-profile and is sized to carry-on airplanes and squeeze into small spaces. Yes, at 43 L (2610 cubic inches), it has less pack space than most packs people use for long-term trips. But that’s a virtue, not a weakness; “heavy packs kill light lives.” Seriously, if there is just one bit of advice I would pass on to someone getting ready to take a trip: take less. There are few joys greater while traveling than walking off a plane and heading directly into the world without stopping to pick up baggage, without having to worry if the bags made it to your destination, or by being able to navigate cities, hotels, restaurants and daily life without dragging a huge bag behind you. Selecting a smaller pack helps make that a reality by forcing you to re-evaluate what you bring because the size of your pack is a very real, tangible constraint. Embrace constraints.

Pack: 1 item. Clothes: “What you pack, breaks your back.” I use the adage “take half as many clothes as you think you need and twice as much money”, but still find that I take too many clothes. My hack? I take or wear a couple bits of clothing that I intend to discard while traveling, lightening my load and building in some space in my pack for poor packing decision-making. What did I take on my current trip? Excluding what I discarded:

1 pair jeans. Yes, they are heavy, bulky, and take forever to dry when you wash them, but jeans are a go-anywhere uniform for the world.

1 pair black pants. Why do I carry a pair of black pants? For business, for more formal and dressier affairs, and to avoid looking like a backpacker at all times.

1 pair North Face khaki hiking pants. Not zip-off convertible pants, just lightweight, simple, wear-anywhere, quick-drying, decent-looking pants for travel, hiking and relaxing.

A go-anywhere, lightweight, flexible jacket to wear in all conditions. Not needed everywhere at all times, but it’s a security blanket more than anything else.

1 dark pinstriped blazer. A reminder of my “what would James Bond do” mantra; unnecessary, but one of my travel comfort items.

1 tie. Mostly to wear while flying, to help stand out from the usual sweatpants-wearing American flyer.

3 long-sleeve button-down shirts. White, black, and a blue North Face travel button-down. I am almost incapable of wearing a long-sleeve shirt without rolling up the sleeves, so these basically function as short-sleeve shirts.

1 pair Columbia khaki shorts.

1 pair Nike running shorts / bathing suit.

1 Nike Dri-Fit Pullover. If you know me, you’ve seen me wear this shirt a couple times over the past five years. Still going strong.

2 short-sleeve polo shirts. White and Black.

2 pair Patagonia Silkweight t-shirts. Indestructible, functional, perfect to wear anywhere, anytime.

A new beloved, wear-anywhere pair of shoes, suitable for any situation given the right attitude.

1 pair black shoes. Soon to be ditched.

3 pair Smartwool long socks, all dark colors.

1 scarf. Unnecessary, I know. I’ll probably never wear it. I just like scarfs.

1 pack towel.
3 pairs underwear. Cotton and Patagonia silkweight.

1 belt.

Granted, this list includes some of the 18 things you don’t need, but it works for me and how I want to live. When I pack clothes I pack for multiple uses; I hesitate to bring anything that only works in one combination, or for one specific use. Basic clothes can be mix-and-matched with anything; building flexibility into your wardrobe is the key for minimizing the amount of clothes you need to bring. And remember one thing: clothes are sold all over the world. If you forgot it, or didn’t bring it, you can buy it. Clothes: 30 items. Total so far: 31 items. The Tools to Live: “Bring, Buy and Discard” I’m always surprised how the rest of the stuff adds up; we think carefully about the clothes we pack and how we’ll use them, but the rest of the “stuff” adds up quickly and is typically disposable and replaceable.
