1. HANAUMA BAY NATURE PRESERVE
This curved bay east of Waikiki is postcard-perfect. Tall palms wave gently in the breeze, turquoise waters great for swimmers and snorkelers, colorful tropical fish in abundance along the reef. This is THE BEST protected cove if you are new to scuba diving or snorkeling with a diverse population of marine life and a large, rich coral reef. The bay floor is actually the crater of an ancient volcano.
You’ll have to climb down a rocky cliff to get to the pretty, usually uncrowded beach. But the water can be rough and dangerous. The blowhole is a lava tube under the water and at the perfect height for waves to be driven into it , where wave action causes compressed water to shoot high into the air. Plenty of turtles to see in the bay.
This pretty, unmarked beach is worth a stop if you’re visiting the Polynesian Cultural Center. White sandy beach with waves year-round Or walk north past the old pier pilings to a sheltered area, so calm it’s named Bathtub Beach.
Kailua’s 3 -mile-long, powdery beach on the windward (eastern) side of Oahu.
Kayak ,snorkel, ecotour activities for the discriminating traveler. Explore pristine coves and extensive coral reefs, tide pools, sea birds, tropical fish, turtles, ancient Hawaiian sites and unique geology. Or head southeast to Lanikai Beach, the best swimming beaches in Hawaii. Its waters are shielded by an offshore reef.
This beach is small but sweet; a reef keeps the waters calm, a tranquil peninsula
